Women-Owned Firms

The share of women-owned firms has grown over time, and the Small Business Credit Survey (SBCS) shows that around 1 in 3 employer small businesses are at least half-owned by women. One key challenge for some women-owned firms is a lack of access to capital. Women-owned firms are disproportionately more likely than men-owned firms to be denied financing when they apply. The SBCS is one of the few data sources that provides detailed insights into the credit-seeking experiences of women-owned firms.
